People close to me know that I am a capital “I” Introvert, and someone who is not entirely comfortable being the center of attention. If I’m in a group of people that are all talking, I usually don’t speak up a lot unless I have something to say. I’ve always been comfortable being a… well, a wallflower. I’m very content to quietly be a part of things. 😊
So it may seem strange that I decided to start my own business, and make my own products! Honestly, sometimes I wonder how I got here too. I’ve always been a creative person, with an eye for aesthetic and design. I also love to give gifts. I began making candles as a hobby, to use in my own home and to gift to friends and family. My candle making didn’t really get serious until late 2020 – a time when most of us were stuck inside due to COVID.
I am someone who struggles with clinic and social anxiety, and I have for most of my life. COVID definitely made that anxiety flare even more, and I really tried to find many small ways to bring peace and calm to my life during a time of real chaos and uncertainty. I find that when I’m the most anxious – when it’s the hardest to calm myself inside – I can take some small steps to make my external space calm and relaxing. One of the things I almost always do is light a candle.
This lifelong love of calm and coziness, of creating warm and safe spaces, slowly turned into my own small business. I wanted to share that sense of calm and peace that I felt with others. I chose a neutral color palette that I found comforting, and stuck to simple and minimal design and marketing. It’s one of the great joys of my life that there are people all across the country who use my candles to bring warmth and beautiful scents into their spaces.
Of course since I started my business, I’ve added several other products to the line-up. But my vision has stayed the same – to provide products with quality, scent and aesthetic in mind. I absolutely love making things that smell good, look beautiful, are safe to use, and that make your personal spaces feel more welcoming – and more like home.
So little by little, I started to overcome my nerves and fear and put myself out there. It's still a challenge to show up confident sometimes, but talking with you all at events and through social makes it all so worth it. We're building this community together! Your love of my business and my products keeps me going.
THANK YOU for being here, and for supporting Wallflower Candle Co.!
